1)

2)
a. The visible substance believed to emanate from the body of a spiritualistic medium during communication with the dead.
b. An immaterial or ethereal substance, especially the transparent corporeal presence of a spirit or ghost.

IF ectoplasm is indeed real, what would its effect be if it was ingested by living humans?

the best case I have ever seen where "ectoplasm" was collected from a haunting was the "San Padro" Entity case made famous by the photographer getting hanged in the attic by his camera strap... they also collected a liquid tha was Oozing from the cabinits in the house.. they analized it in the lab and it was determinded to be blood plasma from a male human... there is no explaination for such a liquid to be Oozing from the kitchen shelves and walls...

There would probably be several different possibilities of Human Ingestion of Ectoplasm:
1.) The Human would probably get sick and throw it up.
2.) The Human could get sick and die.
3.) Or the Human could become possessed by the spirit that the Ectoplasm came from.
But those are just theories. #1 and #2 are more likely to happen than #3, though.
