Sinister - Actually, I said other fans had picked up on the fact that both the women have a thing for Egon. Don't be so picky. The series didn't develope real depth and last long enough to explore too many aspects of any of the characterspersonal lives or personality. Eduardo made passes at many women, throughout the series, in front of Kylie, look at the Witchy Woman ep. They may have intended to do something similar with Eduardo and Kylie, as with Egon and Janine, in the 80's series, then cut it just as quick for the same reason.

Aw, c'mon, Iain, EgonsBabe's not all bad. In fact, I think she's inspired my next Ghostbusters fan fic...
"The Ghostbusters Meet Mary Sue"
The Ghostbusters hire a new member, Mary Sue Harrison, who is drop-dead gorgeous, has multiple PhDs in hard science subjects, and is a black belt in ninjitsu to boot. She begins to hit on Egon non-stop, and starts bad-mouthing Janine because "I could get somewhere if that b**** wasn't around." Egon gets annoyed and enraged at this constant slander of the woman he inarticulately loves, but doesn't say anything (he's too professional). Finally, Mary Sue picks a fight with Janine and Janine kicks her butt. Egon laughs about it in relief as he and Janine go off to get cheeseburgers. The End.
Okay, maybe that wasn't very funny.
But like Sinister the constant Janine bashing is starting to get under my skin--I don't like Louis Tully (except in GB1), but don't spend every post slamming him and talking about Egon beating him up.

Hey Vee I'm not trying to be offensive, it just that when it comes to Janine, we have different opinions. That's what makes this world great. If everyone were the same, it would be boring. And it certainly wouldn't make this debate interesting either.

I'm not saying don't have an opinion. You're entitled to it, you're quite right about that.
I'm just asking this: please remember you're talking constant trash about a character that is considered by the vast majority of this forum as a vital, and interesting, part of the Ghostbusters universe. You've skirted around the edges of outright disrespect a few times--I think in particular of the time you called Ghostheads who supportEgon/Janine (the vast majority of the fans who have an opinion on the issue), "morons" who "needed to have (our) heads examined"
You have articulated some fair and salient points on the matter. But the stream of repetitive insults and pointless musing about seeing a character adored by most Ghostheads physically assaulted is obscuring the good points you do raise.

Vee, I'm sorry but I think you got those comments I posted mixed up with some other subjects. I looked ALL OVER the boards and I didn't and couldn't find anything to back up your claim that I called E/J supporters morons. And the only time I mentioned the phrase "they need to get their heads examined" was on the subject of those who didn't like GB2. Now as for Janine, like I said, the movie Janine I don't have a problem with. They gave her character intellect on the movie. The cartoon Janine I don't like because I feel they made her character really lousy. If they hadn't changed her character then my opinion of her(cartoon Janine) would be different. Now, I'm normally a very placid person, but when I get accused of something I didn't do, I don't take very kindly to that. It happened a lot in my past and those are memories I don't care to repeat. Thank you, that's all I have to say.

After reviewing the Why do people hate Ghostbusters 2? thread, I will offer an apology: you did not call us "morons". A poster right after you used that term in regards, I presume, to anybody that didn't like GB2. I have a fallible memory like any other human, and the two posts got sadly mixed.
However, on the issue of "having (our)heads examined", I offer the following, excerpted from aforementioned thread...

Vee, thank u for your apology because I was rather upset earlier. Remember, I did put "No Offence" in brackets because I only meant it as a joke. But then again I sometimes don't think before I type. That's also another reason why I added the no offence, to have it act as a failsafe cuz sometimes I do have a big mouth. I also put that reason(most people who hate GB2 are E/J supporters) because it's the truth. Just look at their posts on that topic. I'm just not one of them and I never will be, because like I said earlier, by looking at their personality traits, I believe they're not compatible, and that Egon deserves better.

Yes, I'm an E/J shipper. I liked GB2, but not as much as GB1, but not for the E/J reason. It just seemed, I don't know, a lot like the first film. No, I don't like her with Louis, but I didn't let it bother me too much.

Thanx missjanine, at least someone didn't take what I said too seriously. I'm glad that you mentione that you'll read my latest FF. One thing to mention though, in the Janine/Clara fight scene, Janine is under a spell, that's why the fight happens, okay?
BTW, what did you mean by that Mary Sue comment? I'm just wondering, that's why I asked that.

"Mary Sue" is the fan fic nickname for a character that is clearly an over-idealized version of the writer. The three main benchmarks are usually these...
1. Is named after the writer. About the only unofficial "waiver" on this count is entire teams of characters based on the writers and don't join the "real" team, just form a team of Ghostbusters of their own (the fan fic teams of GBInc). Doc Fritz is fine on the GBWC team of fan fic characters, but if I tried to say "he's inducted into the New York Ghostbusters" he'd be a Gary Stu (Mary Sue's male counterpart)
2. Is better at a lot of important things than the canon characters. Like introducing a new physicist and saying "he's smarter than Egon". Double if he outdoes more than one character ("He's smarter than Egon, stronger than Winston, AND cuts better wise cracks than Venkman")(To continue my example: Doc Fritz goes up to Egon's notes and says "You did this all wrong--what are you, stupid?")
3. (Pay attention to this one, I'm afraid) Your character has a romance with one of the canon characters. This counts double when aforementioned character already has a canonical love interest. "My character is really smart, beautiful, good in a fight, and interferes in Egon and Janine's relationship" is a quintessential Mary Sue idea. (Example: Doc Fritz seduces Janine and beats up Egon)
I'm not saying your story is a Mary Sue story--I haven't read it. But it sounds very much like it could be.

Vee, I'll just say one more thing. I know you haven't read my FF yet because it's still in approval pending mode. I'll say this though. In the beginning, I write it as EGON falling for her(Clara) FIRST, not vice versa. That's what creates the competition between the two characters. Janine is also the one who ends up STARTING the fight, however, Janine is not herself as she is under a spell that was cast by the ghost I created for this FF.
Ugh, this is going nowhere. Vee, you're a pretty cool person and I hate to see you upset. It's just that we have differrent opinions on this, and I know that they'll never change, just like mine will never change. Please remember that it's just a story. It may not follow your Canon because it's your canon, mine is different. As Tom Paris says to Tuvok on Voyager, "This isn't real life Tuvok, it's fiction. Don't get so caught up in logic"

is it okay if I put my opnion down too?
well first off, I love GB2 and thought the love scene between Louis and Janine was funny and that time I wasn't really paying attention to the whole Janine and Egon thing that was in the first movie and in the animation.
But now years years later after rewatching RGB on this site, I really love the whole J/E thing. I love the little moments Janine and Egon would share sometimes in the animation like in "Slimer is that you?" (if that is the wrong title, sorry remembering titles and names isn't something I'm good at)the scene where Egon asked why Janine was so quiet and answers it is his mind she admires and in "A plant growing in Brooklyn" where Egon was pleasantly surprise to learn Janine knows so much about plants and he saves her!
And finally "Janine you changed" I believe proved they really do love each other! I think in way they did get together later on just off the scenes. And sorry I don't consider EGB an actually part of the timeline more like a AU.
