WShawn's Proton Pack
Built By: WShawn
I originally built this proton pack (with the help of a friend who also built one) way back in September-October of 1984. Our design was based on photos and measurements we took at a display at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts where a "beauty" pack and foam stunt pack were on display.
Ours was a low-budget affair, built out of masonite, PVC pipe, a Pringles can and some fiberglass (the pan was cast from a roasting lid.) We pulled the stickers off the back of arcade games, copy machines and electrical boxes. I built a circuit for the rotating red lights.
The following year I replaced the masonite parts with fiberglass, since the thing was heavy as hell. I added an oscillating blue light (my best attempt to emulate that movement) and the lights in the gun.
I've never put the money or effort into getting all the Clippard parts and pneumatic thingees, but although some of the details are missing and the proportions are a little off here and there, I'm very proud of the pack, and I've had a lot of fun wearing it. It's hanging in our home office where it makes a great conversation piece with clients
