“But Peter, my experiments…” “Egon, this is not the time. Besides, your experiments will be fine without you as they always are.” “But I would at least like to shut down my particle accelerator.” “Egon,” says Peter sternly, “Unless the particle accelerator is going to send us into orbit, firehouse and all, I don’t believe there’s any real reason to keep these people waiting.” “Please, Peter. That is exactly what would happen to us and anyone within a 5-mile radius. And, in doing so shorten our supply of customers.” Egon had said the magic words. He knew that Peter could not possibly give up any potential clients. “All right, Spengler but I’m giving you 5 minutes. And while you’re up there comb your hair; you look like a trashed hippie.” Ray and Winston snorted, obviously hiding their laughter.
“I believe that you also need to ‘drag a comb through the rug’; as you say. Anyway my hair looks nowhere near as bad as yours does…” “Hey now, Spengler, them’s fightin’ words!” Peter drew Egon into a tight headlock and proceeded to give him the hardest noogie he could muster. “Ouch! All right, all right! I concede defeat, Peter. You are the victor.” “Damn right I am. Don’t any of you forget it!” Ray was suddenly hit with an idea. He shouted, “Dog pile on the victor!” As Peter looked ‘round he saw his three friends dive onto him. Once the dust settled, the pile was seen as follows: Peter (of course) at the bottom, Ray second, Winston third, and Egon sitting upright upon all of them grinning happily. “Let me rephrase that Peter. I am the victor.” Then before Ray could shout ‘Dog pile on the victor’ again, he sprinted down to his lab.
Suddenly, a face loomed out of the darkness at him. Slightly frightened, Egon froze waiting to see who it was. It was Janine. “Janine?” “Egon? What are you still doing here? I rang the bell hours ago!” “Actually you rang it at precisely 3:08 AM. It is now 3:17 AM. So it has not been even an hour yet.” Janine rolled her eyes at him. Peter ran almost happily up the stairs just to see whether or not they were talking to each other.
You see a few weeks ago, one of Egon’s slimier experiments had exploded. And at that very moment Janine had literally walked into the fray and was covered from head to foot. It even went up her nose and Peter suspected that was the reason she had stopped talking to Egon.
But, of course, Winston had his doubts. Ray had them as well. He sensed that Janine was getting over it fast seeing as she had that slight thing for Egon. Unfortunately for Egon, Peter had arrived just in time to see Janine’s eyes rolling. “Bossy pain in the ass, ain’t he?” he asked cynically. “I resent that, Peter,” Egon said almost angrily. “Sorry Spengs, but I do, in fact, believe that Janine might agree with me.” And do you know what? She did for once. “You’re absolutely right Peter. Egon is just a bossy pain in the ass.” Immediately after she had said it, Janine turned a deep shade of crimson and looked apologetically at Egon, who in turn also blushed but it quickly receded from his cheeks where as it had stayed with Janine.
“Well, if you will both excuse me, I must shut off the particle accelerator.” “And I must hurry up because…I have to go to the bathroom!” Janine exclaimed almost breathlessly. “Riiiight,” murmured Peter as Janine and Egon ascended the stairs. Once they were on the next level, Egon faced Janine and asked, “ Does this mean that we are speaking to one another again?” “Yes of course it does, Egon. You know I could never stay mad at you.” Egon chuckles quietly to himself then says, “All right, then.” He then walked into the lab to shut off the large piece of machinery that sits in the center of the room. Janine follows him quietly.
“Egon?” she asks softly. “Yes?” he replies. “I’ve got something to tell you.” “What is it?” he asks as he crosses the floor to face her again. “I know you think that Louis- -“ Egon let out a derisive snort at that time. “That Louis and I had something going on but, man were you guys wrong!” Janine cracks up. “Does this mean what I think it means?” “Yes, Egon, it does. I don’t want to be with Louis. I…um…would very much like to be with…you if that’s still ok.” “Yes of course that’s still ok.” Janine smiles up at him as he gives her a small smile in return.
