This is something that's been bugging me for a while now.
Gozer was a spirit, a demigod. It took the physical form of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man, and the body was destroyed in an explosion. This wouldn't have destroyed Gozer, though, because it is a spirit. Yet everyone in the movie acted like Gozer was destroyed... So my question is, do you believe that the Ghostbusters got rid of Gozer permanently, or did they just wash him away to "the nearest convenient parallel dimension"?

Many opinins on this can be found in the "Did the Ghostbusters really Save the World?" thread, but the common opinion, and what actually happened, is that yes the physical body for Gozer was fully destroyed with the rooftop explosion, when the boys sealed off the door to the dimension Gozer was from. By sealing it off, Gozer was trapped back in his/her dimension, because he/she did not have a physical form in our dimension to tool around in. By destroying the gateway, Gozer had no chance of coming back in another physical form, and is probably currently traveling to other dimensions and destroying other worlds, for he/she was not destroyed, just cutoff from ever coming to see us again; well at least using THAT gateway to get through, maybe there are others?
