Did they REALLY 'Save the World'?

Well, with Gozer, conventional weapons probably would have hurt him/her/whatever directly, but we don't know if there were some other nasty surprises waiting on the other side of that portal. Plus, there were all those other ghosts to do it's bidding. With Vigo, well I am not sure he would be susceptible to conventional tactics. The slime was obviously able to withstand whatever the NYPD had at it's disposal (the "we can't make a dent" line), so yeah, they saved the world.

I think Vigo would have most of the world conquered before anyone thought of the "positivity" idea. He'd be a much tougher force to overcome. Daryl knows what he's talking about, too; he mentioned that Stay-Puft wasn't destroyed until Gozer was vanquished... this makes sense, once the GB's blew up the portal, Stay-Puft went with it. Who else would have the technology and destructive know-how of the GB's to save the world?
