I've just found out something interesting about the Ghostbusters movie that I don't believe I've heard before.

During the montage scene in Ghostbusters, a guy on the radio says "this is Casey Kasem, now on with the countdown". I just assumed he was just some US radio DJ but it turns out Casey Kasem is non other than the voice of Shaggy in Scooby-doo! That has to be one of the greatest cameos ever (as far as subject matter is concerned).

Yep, Casey Kasem is the Voice of Shaggy, but it's not really a shaggy Cameo. Casey Kasem is a real person, who use to do alot of countdowns. I remember he used to do the Nick at Nite countdowns.

Well, yeah, obviously he's a real person wink

Anyway it seems the reason his voice is in the movie is because he is Shaggy. It's too much of a coincidence to be ... a coincidence.

I think it was just 'cause he was big in the 80s, like Larry King.

Another fun fact? The tall, squeaky-voiced blonde Louis dances with at his party is Casey's wife, Jean Kasem

(Or at least I assume they're still married. It's Hollywood...you never know... smile

lol. The majority of hollywood relationships dont work but i never heard if they did. The reason he was doing the radio anouncement/countdown is because thats what got him famous. Everyone in the 80's tuned in to hear the top whatever of the week. He usually did it on the weekends. Last time i checked hes still doing it on some stations. Its pretty funny to hear him anounce a dirty rap song title. wink

Yeah. He's still on in Detroit. Sundays on FM 95.5 and FM 100.3. I never listened to the 100.3 show. I don't know what it counts down.

How is Casey Kasem being on the radio a cameo? That makes no sense.

THAT'S WHO IT WAS!!!!!!!!! I swear I was going to start a topic asking what else that guy has done. I knew I heard his voice somewheres before, I just couldn't pinpoint it. Thanks for clearing this up.
Also, Veedramon, I beleive Harold Ramis mentions that the way to get his wife into the movie was to have Shags do a cameo in the movie.
But the greatest cameo I think is still that one dude with the beard who stands behind the bald guy doing the news report. That guy is so funny looking.

The bearded guy behind the bald news reported isn't a cameo - he isn't famous. And, for Agent D especially tongue , a cameo is a brief appearance in a movie (or something) from a well known person (i.e. celebrity).

As Casey Kasem is famous, his brief feature in the movie makes it a cameo. He seems to have been intentionally chosen to do this because he's the voice of Shaggy (they could have just used anyone otherwise) who is a another famous ghost hunter.

The bearded guy wasn't even a paid extra. He just wandered on to the set!

I don't think it has anything to do with him being the voice of Shaggy

Ernie is right. Kasem being in the movie has nothing to do with him playing Shaggy and Scooby Doo having a similar theme as Ghostbusters. They chose him because his radio show was still popular at the time. And I know what a cameo is.
