What were the lasers for

What function did the Lasers serve in the containment unit?
A lot of people have worked out how the Proton packs work so lets see if you can do this one

The lasers in the ECU make up "the grid" it is an energy net that surrounds the entire ECU on hte inside! It prevents the Ghosts from escaping, in the same way the proton beams latch ontoi a ghost in the proton streams.

But the proton packs held the ghosts because the ghosts were negitivly charged and the proton stream positive, the lasers don't have a charge as far as I know, do they?

I expect, that they were negatively charged... but only becuase opposites attract, that's why the ghosts are pulled into the proton beam. And the gris keeps the ghosts in, so I think they are negatively charged...

Technically the ECU the inside grids of the containment unit likely resembled lasers giving the name the "Laser grid". But how should anybody know, the equiptments uses are based on theories. like the reason ghosts are held instead of charged positively. Well notice that there are blue lines circling the stream at their free will, I beleive these are the seperated electrons. these would prevent the streams from flying straight into any negative charge. Especially the exhaust ports which would have to eject the electrons or else where the hell else would they go, they'd zap the buster. So to sum up my proton stream theory, the electrons fall the protons in seperate streams. which would cause the stream to wrap around the ghosts instead of charging them positively and seperating the atoms. Have I lost you? What's that? Ecto Containment Unit? Huh, oh yeah. Kinda off topic now aren't I, all well.

Egon dosn't seem the type who would call it laser just because they look like them if thats what you mean  also on the side of the wall you can see a pannel marked Warning:lasers.

The problem is, when the ghost is subjected to the protonic beam then it gets "merged" with it, you know like the catching process... if this exact process was used in the ECU, then the Ghosts would again merge with it making it noi good for indefinitely holding the ghosts! Therefore the grid must be negatively charged, eg, pure electronic, that way the ghosts would be repelled by it, meaning that the ghosts were contained.

I guess not, look, if they're called a laser grid then they make a laser grid.

Okay, here's my two cents in the ECU. Basically the laser grid creates a 'forcefield' that holds the ghosts inside the ECU. I reackon the lasers are the same type as used in the Proton Guns, designed specifically to prevent ghosts from escaping if ensnared in them.

But th packs don't have laser beams they are proton streams.

Sinister can you please explain your post, I understand the ghost and the beam merging but how is this a problem, it seems to work when they use the packs on a ghost?

Can we assume it's similar to a VERY large trap? Would the same technology that keeps them in the trap, also keeps them in CU?
