Taking Screen Shots From DVDs on Computer

is there a program that takes screen shots of your desktop, or dvds playing on your computer? for some reason when i press the print screen button, the movie playing comes up as a black screen. the same goes for windows media player. can anyone help me out?

that exact thing happens to me, as well, i have no idea why, but i have been wondering so this question kinda goes for me too

Your video hardware is incapable of taking a screenshot of a DVD movie. Sorry.

Just so ya guys know, mine is too.
What happens is that your DVD decoder on your video card sends the information directly to your monitor, rather than the motherboard. Or so I'm told...

Power DVD records the DVD frame into a folder as a BMP file. I currently have a picture of Neo flicking off Agent Smith as my desktop.

whenever i used to take a screen shot it used to work though. my computer broke awhile ago and i fixed some stuff up so maybe thats why it don't work. so there's no program that does this though?

As long as you have PowerDVD its simple, it has the screen capture button built in (lil camera icon). 'But all i get is a blank screen' I hear you cry!
The easy answer is stop the player, go into options, and at the top of the video tab is a check box with the words 'enable hardware acceleration' next to it. Simply untick that, and bingo, you should be able to screengrab. Normally. That way all rendering of the video is done in software, and not using overlay from your graphics card (which causes the blue/black screen).
This may make your video play back less smoothly (depending on speed of machine) but will let you do screengrabs.

so there's nothing i can do in my control panel? cuz i used to be able to. theres gotta be a way to fix it.....im also not able to watch asf files and i used to be able to. maybe their linked somehow.

It does all work actually if you use the correct program. i find Snag-it works wonderfully for capturing vid stills! and i wouldnt be without it.

I watch all my videos using BS Player and it lets save pics from the video.
For DVD I use Power DVD to play them which also allows save pictures from the video into the specified folder.
