Officially Addressing Members Concerns About The State Of Ghostbusters.net

As it's been said many times before. I am very busy and Ghostbusters.net remains a priority, although the lowest of them all at this very moment (but that will change soon).
I will continue to run the site and as soon as I am able to make the appropriate changes, the site will be administered and updated by mods and users. Which is a model that the site was created for and represents the true fact that Ghostbusters.net is a site for the community and ran by the community.
As many of you know, I am on the verge of going public with my first company. This happens a week from tomorrow. After that and when time allows I will work on building the proper tools to push Ghostbusters.net in a complete state of automation. Fan Fics are already being updated by Vince, Kingpin, and Sinister. Props will be updated by RJ (sg1star), and links will be updated by Eric Rose and another volunteer (please contact me as I forgot who I assigned this position to along with Eric). Moderators will be able to ban members and the community will be able to nominate and elect for new mod positions and help restructure the rules so they are clear and reasonable for the majority of the Ghostheads who visit the site.
That said, anyone who complains is simply just attempting to cause trouble, like a few members who have tried to start a "Ghostbusters.net and the community is in shambles" hysteria. The fact is, this is YOUR site. YOU post, YOU will elect the mods, YOU create and approve the fan fiction, props, and website links, and YOU get to help shape the rules which will make this site a better place for all who visit.
There is only one reason I created this site and continue to maintain it to this day. That is for the love of the Ghostbusters franchise. The films, the cartoons, toys, and the online community behind it. Contrary to what some may think, I do not make a profit on this website. I DO, in fact, LOSE a great deal of money each year in server and bandwidth expenses (not to mention opportunity cost in hours of work spent). This loss is in the THOUSANDS range each year and has neared 5 figures this past year due to a HUGE traffic increase and the fact that I bought my own dedicated server and opted to colocate it to save money in the long run.
All in all, Ghostbusters.net has always been and will remain your place. Never has it been a place to prevent other sites from blossoming (notice the related links all over the site, not to mention the large links section). I allow users to create links in their profiles, in their signatures, signature images, etc. The whole premise of Ghostbusters.net is to create a launching pad to the WHOLE community which consists of hundreds of user-created Ghostbusters sites on the web. I cannot address every site concern in person and I am taking steps to grant the community the powers and rights to administer and basically run the site themselves. To take pride in the site and make it a better place for us all.
Charge those packs, 2003 into 2004 is gonna be a wild ride!

Let me be the first to say that a lot of us are going to be reassured by what you've just said. There has, indeed, been a lot of hysteria in recent weeks. I'm hoping some of this can stave off the Ghosthead Civil War I feared on the horizon.
Ironically enough, I was just rereading Zack's thread about giving Moderators banning powers just before you posted this.
The Moderators at this site do a hell of a job for no pay and sometimes even less thanks, and I think this will be a useful tool to keep the troublemakers from, well, making too much trouble.
About the only big question is: when can we expect these changes to take effect?

I don't have a hard date for you. As this website is a labor of love, something I do in my spare time. However, as I said earlier, my new company launches (if all goes well) a week from this Monday. Therefore, I would hope that I could impliment the mod and approval tools by that Friday.
This is just an estimate, but I will keep you all updated. I also have plans for a MUCH needed and MUCH put off feature to allow users to change their email addresses. There will be a few new features like that coming down the pipe and then some big additions as the year ends.

Well congrats Chad. This sounds lieka good idea, just as long as the mods do not go power hungry I think this will be a great idea.

Oh, wow, Chad! You have really cleared up a lot for me. Thank you and I would like to say, as well, good luck with the whole new company, I hope that gives you what you need. Congrats to the volunteers and moderators who are getting the new positions in the rating systems. Also, congrats to the moderators for getting the power they have always wanted  . (Zack, you quit too soon ) I hope this will be the turning point of the community, making this an EVEN better place. Thanks and good luck again !

I hope things get better...I'm sure they will...and maybe we could see some female mods???? 
I also say thank you in advance to the new approvers, I'm sure they'll do a great job....and keep up the good work to the current mods and approvers. It would be a real shame to see GBN fall over a few silly things. Chad is right, we have the power to make this a great site ...or a not so great site  ..and I for one vote to make it a GREAT site!!

all mods will be able to have banning powers? or just some? because if this is true and all are alowed I believe it maybe a mistake, thanks for taking the time out to explain whats doing in the community good luck with your company ect ect.
