I'm sorry but i think that cd sucks bad. it was horribly mixed and produced. The music is faded and the drums sound like trash cans. And i dont know what is up with the lyrics. I'm going to the Summer Sanitarium and they better sound better than how this cd was made.

If you read anything about it, that was sortve what they wanted. They used old equipment, wrote lyrics on the fly and meant it to sound as much as they could as a sortve Garage Feel to their music. If it sounds like you say it does, they meant it to be that way, of course they didnt mean for it to sound bad.

The same complaints seem to be all over the place. Lyrics, no solos, drum sounds, etc. I just read this reply to a thread on a Metallica board and thought it was really great. The thread was titled "St Anger has regrettably failed"
-------
QUOTE
but it has failed but they will learn
The actual topic of this thread disgusts me. Metallica FAILED ? Metallica DID NOT FAIL....because (drum roll)..... you, you wanker, did not personally set them a task to create an album that you would find acceptable! They failed nobody. Not themselves and not the people who dont like the album.
Its amusing to see so many technical players and critics in you all. For all the comments about drumming, solos, James' lyrics and voice etc... all it boils down to..is that you just dont like it ! Form a help group, and discuss how Metallica did not make the album you wanted to hear and buzz off. Its a piece of art at the end of the day... enjoy it, get into it and get more out of it.. or get over it.
Metallica have let absolutley no-one down ! There has been enough interviews and press about how the guys just do what they feel right, and what they want to do. This album you seem to be waiting for, is not gonna come. Get over it ! Find a band whos new music you do like.
As for the production....just a little thought. Maybe they meant for it to sound exactly as you hear ! That, that was the plan. Its been documented that they recorde the album differently. All 4 of them will have authorisded the release of the final cut. That means that Metallica was happy to release their album as it sounds. Its meant to sound different. The band and the producer who produced the beloved black album. Besides, most of their pre-black albums sound extremely tinny indeed.
Metallica have not failed.

PS. They wrote some lyrics together. All songs were written by Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett/Rock. Think there's something wrong with the sound? Turn it up. The album kicks ass.

Yeah, I began to enjoy it even more after listening to it several times. I like the sound they have with this album, it's not quite like old Metallica or what was considered new Metallica. As it's said on their website, they have been reborn. Reborn with a new rough sound that is full of raw emotion.

St Anger is easily not the high point of this album. It may take time to enjoy this album(if you end up enjoying it) After listening to it once, I wasn't really sure what I heard. After walking away and doing other things, a lot of it starting sinking in as far as riffs and lyrics and why the songs were the length they were and just everything started to hold more meaning.
They've said before this is an album statement and they weren't really going for big hit singles(Like they knew Enter Sandman was going to be THE song) The songs are very much unique from each other and the songs fit together very nicely. They hang together loosely but are very tight. I'm not sure if there was a theme or common link to all the songs but I definetly felt the experience listening to the whole album through and heard what they were going for and what direction they're headed. Metal up your a$$!

Ive always thought Metallica has been alright, but since Im not much of a big metal fan theyve never been my favorite band despite the fact that they are the best metal Ive heard side of Rage or Audioslave(Im partial to Tom Morello's guitar though). But in any case this is my favorite Metallica stuff yet. So who knows who will like this album.
