Hey all. I hate to even be making this post. lol Drawing attention to myself wasn't really the plan or to try and gain sympathy for my departure. Removing my avatar/signature etc was just a dumb little thing I did at the time to try and further distance myself. For people who don't know, I quit as a moderator of this site yesterday. I have been trying to get out of it for sometime now but have been convinced to just "take a break" time and time again.
I hated to even go away for a few days not knowing what would be going on the board not sure if things would get done. I'd always feel obligated to check on things or see if something needed to be take care of. I felt guilty about not being here or that people would look to me when things didn't get done. "You know Zack will lock this" "Give em a link Zack" I did more than I ever really had to and as sad as it sounds let the job control me to a point.
There are 3 main reasons I couldn't do it anymore.
1. Most of the time it felt like me against the world, like I was the only moderator, it looked and felt like I was working alone. My complaints and e-mails of members who should be watched or banned went unnoticed most of the time and to members of the site, it looked like I was doing all of the locking/moderating making me look cruel and unreasonable at times.
2. The weakest mod "powers" of any message board ever. New mod powers promised over a period of going on a little over half a year now. Nothing yet. Very little administrative control. Basically if Chad's not online, nothing can be done other than locking/deleting. Moderators can't make the final decision to ban anyone. Problem members went unattended to for weeks. Hard to control situations at times.
3. It may just be me and my silly dedication but I try to make time to check things on here since I agreed to do it when I took the position. I know this isn't a real job but I took it pretty seriously and tried to make this a somewhat decent place. On the otherhand some moderators log in once a month. I'm not going to say any names and maybe I just took it a little too seriously but I really have no desire to work on a halfa$$ed team anymore. Don't get me wrong, I felt I could count on most of them but I could easily think of a few more reliable people who could have been in their place. Again no offense to anyone since their dedication may only seem miniscule in comparison to my extreme dedication.
Again, I didn't even want to make this post. Most people should know I rarely try to get attention on the board. I don't really want/expect sympathy with this post because I let it happen to myself. I put all the responsibility and blame on myself. I just figured I owed people an explanation I guess since it might somehow affect people. Don't ask any questions while I'm gone! The only way I could truly get away from the site was if I knew I wasn't a moderator and everyone else knew it, that I didn't have to worry about it for a change.
I always had the feeling that I'd be letting people down by not being around or that somebody would need help with a screenshot/signature pic/episode title or something and no one would give it to them. I really hope to rejoin the GBN staff at some point and pick up where I left off but now I guess I just need to take some time for myself and reevaluate some things. I've made a lot of good friends here and know I can't stay gone forever. Here's hoping I don't come back tomorrow and say "I'm back!" lol  See ya around everybody. Hopefully it doesn't have to be too long. "We're the best...we're the beautiful...we're the only...Ghostbusters!"

You were THE BEST Moderator on this site. You deserve more credit than that. You've worked the hardest. You're on just about all the time, and you've always helped everyone out. You've encouraged others, helped them with Signature, Avatar, and Profile Images, and answered our many GB questions.
I know it can be stressful, too. With angry troublemakers IMing and e-mailing you, and harrassing you, just b/c you did the right thing, when they did the wrong thing.
But I just wanted to say you've made me feel welcome on this site. You've been a Great Friend ever since I joined, and you still are. I hope you'll come back soon.
Thank you for everything you've done for us and this site.

Zack, you made a good friend in me, man. And I do feel for you as well as your other friends probably do in knowing that you did do most of the work around here by yourself. And by most I mean 85%, with the other percentage going to Back. No offense to anyone, but that's how it was. Hopefully I'll see you back soon man, at least we've got AIM, but I will miss you around the boards, that's for sure. Catch you on the flip side...

I think some people sometimes including myself have taken you and your awesome modding for granted. Thank you for the great service you have done for this site. GBN will be a very different place without you.

Hey, I'm glad to see someone else is standing up for the lack of moderator abilities on this site. Back when I used to be a mod I would request these types of abilities. Chad acted like a complete ass when I'd ask him to implement these types of moderating tools. He would act as if I wasn't doing my job or say that none of the other moderators complained. I'm glad to see someone else agree with me about this.
For those who do not know. Ghostbusters.net moderators, When it actually comes to moderating can do 2 things basically. Jack and ...., and Jack left town. There are very little things GB.net moderators can do at all. In fact here's list of EVERYTHING GBN Moderators can do.
1. Edit/Modify User Posts
2. Delete User Posts
3. Lock User Posts
4. Move/Relocate User Posts
That is EVERYTHING a GB.net moderator can do. GB.net moderators can't ban users, GB.net moderators can't really do anything significant to stop a really bad problem except delete posts. Deleting posts is also a tedious task as moderators can only delete one post at a time. So lets say theoretically some spammer comes in and mass posts "GHOSTBUSTERS SUCKS". Lets say he makes 50-100 of these posts. This means if Chad isn't around the moderators will have to tackle the task of delete 50-100 posts one post at a time. Sounds like fun doesn't it?
Nobody knows for sure why Chad won't implement these features. He says he "Doesn't have the time" and "Has a real life ya know" direct quotes from him folks. Well he's been promising these tools for at least a year that I know of and he hasn't followed thru. Seems to me he's had plenty of time to work it into his busy schedule. God only knows why the guy refuses to get an ordinary board script instead of this half assed UBB script he made "From Scratch" as he says. Any modern day script would have banning features but he refuses to use it.
My theory is Chad likes having his little dictatorship where by he rules via His Law. Having mods with the abilities he has would threaten the fragile little world he's created for himself here where he has absolute power.
But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I'm a moderator on a very popular bulletin board and our powers are basically the same. We lock or delete posts that violate the guidelines, we move posts that are in the wrong forum, and we warn members who stray outside the forum guidelines. We can't ban or suspend members; that's up to the guy who owns the forum and the head admin. There are plenty of times where they aren't around and we have to wait for action on something, and a lot of the decisions are made in sort of a "committee" fashion, although the owner has the final say. If you're going to have different tiers of mods, though, like we do and you apparently do, giving your normal mods banning powers probably wouldn't be such a good idea. It's better, in my mind, to have one or two people have the final say in whether or not someone ought to be banned, instead of just handing that power out to a bunch of people and having potential conflicts over whether or not someone should have been banned.
I don't know the whole situation here, just speaking about a similar situation from my own viewpoint.

Zack, it sucks to see you go dude. You were an awesome mod, and an all around good guy. Well, you still are a good guy, just not a mod. I hope to see you back as a mod soon, hopefully people will learn to appreciate all your hard work dude. Take care of yourself man, sit back, relax, and watch some good movies.

I have this sinking feeling we'll know what a good job Zack did soon enough...
I can sympathize very well with doing a difficult, thankless job, dealing with obnoxious people who don't realize how awful they're being, and feeling like the only one who gives a flying leap about it--been there, done that, got the red smock and engraved nametag to prove it...Four years as a Customer Service Associate, and let me tell ya, when I think about all the idiots who made it sound like it was my fault they didn't keep their    reciepts, I can well imagine what dealing with the...rowdier Ghostheads could be like
