I figured I'd open up an "official" thread for discussion about the NHL playoffs kicking off in a couple weeks here. For the most part, the matchups have already been decided.
I'm personally looking forward to the Avs - St. Louis series. Not just because, hey it's it the Avs, but these two teams have duked it out all season. It's a great first round match up for entertaining hockey.
EDIT: Wow, also of note this is my 800th post. Wowzers.

that is going to be a great series, quite possibly best one of the play offs... Does anyone know if Pronger is back yet? Colorado will be hyped up by all of the American Sportscasters again (ESPN), but I think St. Louis will take them in 6.
Osgood vs Roy, a showdown that has happend many times before.
I find it funny that the Rangers, with a payroll 10 million dollars higher then any team, are not going to make the playoffs. They just got a few big names too they god Anson Cartor for Radek Dvorak, what a deal. Thiers definitley a minute chance they could make playoffs. I mean somehow Carolina made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals last year
The Redwings will most likely be playing Minnesota or Edmonton. The wings are still without defensmen Jiri Fischer, but its no sweat they still have Lindstrom, Chelios, and Scheinder. Yzerman still isnt his old self, but he is starting to come around. Hendrik Zetterberg has been amazing as of late.

Did someone say maple leafs?? GO LEAFS GO! GO LEAFS GO, there looking strong this year boys, which makes me look forward to watching them in action in this years playoffs.

It's gonna be awesome! If the playoffs started today, The Bruins would be up against New Jersey. Now, as a long term fan of the Bruins, I should be very faithful in the black and gold. But I've kinda lost all hope, two years in a row they kick arse at the beginning, and at the end they're horrible

Unfortuneately dispite some fantastic victories, the flames are out and down. we won the cup once before in 89. we can do it again.

I seriously beg to differ on the American Sportscasters comment. ESPN's color and play by play annoys the $#@! out of me, especially during a Avs/Wings series mostly because of how anti-Avs they tend to be.
I was to understand that the Wings have solidified a series with the Wild first round... or has Dallas?

Ya know what I think? The Devils will take it back to Jersey AGAIN! Oh yes, it will happen! But on a sidenote: The Rangers are soo sad! I have this friend, Shepherd who is determined on pissing off every hockey fan in the school by saying "oh just wait, the Rangers will make i" when with their current record they CAN'T beat the Devils and make it to the Playoffs. I mean just come on. The Rangers record against the Devils this season is 0-1-3, Their chances of winning this weekend is awfully slim. Whew now I got that out!

Wow, that was an exciting last couple of regular season games- matchups shuffled because of it. Man, this is going to be a great playoff season!

What a fun day of playoff openers- the Flyers/Leafs game was quite a fun ride even though that final score doesn't reflect how close it actually was.
Boston and NJ put on a good show too, it's definitely going to be a close series.
Oh, and did I mention the upset the Isles and Oilers pulled off? Sheesh... bring on the fun round'a'hockey.
Now onto the more important and pressing matters, the western conference games tomorrow... ahhh yeah.

are you sure we are watching the same ESPN???
they are so pro-avalanch...
all they do is talk about how Peter Forsberg is the best player in the NHL. Forsberg is very good, but not the best in the league.
The Problem with the avanlanch is that they only have one line going for them, all Minnesotta has to do is shut down that line, and it will make it a good series....
Both the Islanders and the Oilers could upset Ottawa and Dallas...
I think the Vancouver St Louis is looking to be the best series in the first round...
I think Toronto will take down Philly in 6 games...

I want the av's to win. #52, defenseman Adam Foote has the same last name as i do (foote), so we are related in some way or annother. Foote is not a common name. So go Avs, if they win, im goin get the away jersey. i have the alternative jersey now(offical one), so i would like annother jersey.

Guess it must be a matter of perspective but I for one am tired of hearing ESPN go on and on about the "Mighty Detroit Red Wings." The Forsberg comments could possibly be coming from the fact that he was the Art Ross winner... just a thought.
