Banning powers needed NOW!

i like the idea of mods given the ability to ban. you wouldnt be banned unless you did something terribly wrong anyway. an they're more neutral than have vendettas against someone.

I think the mods should have banning powers. Some people need to be stopped before they bring the whole site down.

Greetings...
I also believe that the MODs should have temporary banning power at least. It would really help when someone wants to cause trouble. 
I don't think anyone is out to get you LordVego, but people who DO cause trouble and who aren't easily deterred could get booted quickly and more frequently and through that, hopefully, get the picture.

Anyone who saw this mornings little outburst by gbdude3, I move for the banning abilities for moderators to happen as soon as possible. It's getting ridiculous and seriously out of hand and now I have to go to class. I'm guessing this guy will go unbanned for a good bit until Chad checks the site later today if he does. This should be able to be taken care of immediately.

definitley a temporary ban, or as said earlier suspension would be a good thing, so many times the board gets spammed by a signle person, and it takes forever to remove it post by post....

At the risk of sounding power hungry, somebody needs to do it. If with his new job, Chad can't be around as much, why not delegate more power to people who are here? Now, we are essentially weak and powerless. Banning someone shouldn't have to go through the webmaster all the time, I thought thats why he has moderators?  It will realistically make less work for him instead of everything always needing his stamp of approval before it gets done. As we've seen, people can always be unbanned anyway.
At other boards I go to, mods actually make the decisions on who stays and who goes, they actually have authority. I'm not saying I'm going to go crazy banning everybody but I don't see how anyone can take us seriously when we really can do nothing. Chad is a good guy, don't get me wrong. These are just my thoughts on how to fix the problems that still exist.

I thought this might help. It's the disclaimer for another forum to which I am a member, Anime Music Videos.Org
It could be a template GBN code of ethics, if you will...
You also agree to this AnimeMusicVideos.org code of ethics:
1. Thou shalt be courteous at all times including visiting conventions, forum posts, opinions given, and opinions received. Respect other's judgment though you may disagree with it.
2. Thou shalt not use downloaded video footage to make AMVs.
3. Thou shalt not use downloaded music to make AMVs.
4. Thou shalt not use pirated software: No warez, No serialz, No crackz.
5. Thou shalt only have one user account.
6. Thou shalt not put false information into the video catalog.
7. There shalt be only one catalog entry per video.
8. Thou shalt enter only the videos you created.
9. Thou shalt not steal other video creator's ideas.
10. Thou shalt not try to impersonate other video creators.
Your also agree to the following forum-specific rules:
1. Forum signature images shall not be larger than 40 pixels tall or 600 pixels wide; any sig image exceeding these limits will be removed from the sig file without warning.
2. Linked forum avatars shall not be larger than 80 pixels tall or 80 pixels wide; any avatar image exceeding these limits will be removed from the sig file without warning.
3. If a member (most likely a newbie) posts to the wrong forum, you as a knowing member must 1) answer the question they posted and then 2) point out which forum is the most approprate one to post to about such items. The forum moderator will (most likely) soon move the thread.
4. If you post images in forum threads, you should own the bandwidth that is providing those images. If you steal bandwidth by linking to images you do not have server control over, those images will be removed from the post.
5. There shall be no posts containing or on how to obtain warez, crackz, serialz, porn/hentai, or downloadable anime episodes. You will be banned without warning for such posts.
6. The forum will not be used for any kind of personal attacks.
Another idea is that you could have a secret thread that can only be seen and used by the administrator and mods. That way you can move and dump offensive posts there as evidence for Chad about the conduct of certain users.
You could also just change the user names and bios of certain offensive users, to give them a little bit of their own medicine!

More killing, err... i mean banner power eh? im pretty laid back and id like to belive that its not the moderators job to ban but chad isnt superman and cant be everywhere at once. perhaps a power of that magnitude could be useful.

I am for it. Perhaps banning power could come with a system that automatically emails Chad with "Who was temp. banned" and "which moderator banned him"...perhaps a simple explanation form could come with the "ban" power, so Chad can assess the situation when he is on.
I also have a problem with member back-talk to mods...I can't remember where, but I believe that Chad stated "Do NOT publicly challenge the MODS."
I'm not talking about differences of opinion, I'm talking about beligerant insults, mouthiness, and "get off your high horse" comments.

This is DEFINETELY a good idea. We won't have to worry about some of these psychoes causing trouble.
BTW, is there any way to find out if a banned member is under a new name, or has multiple screen names? That's a problem too. With that Winston777, and several other members. I think that any banned member that comes back under a new screen name should be banned again.

Well it seems this idea went nowhere fast. Thanks Chad! Check your GBN inbox and read the same complaints I and others have been sending for weeks now. Please, I beg you to take action accordingly or give the ability to someone who will do something about the problems. Thank you.

EDIT I just read Chad's "State of GBN" Address and apparently "It's Coming!" banning powers that is. Once again, no date. He's been saying this for awhile. We'll see.

Chad who is currently very busy working on his up and coming company has asked me to relay some info on this subject. He is currently working on giving the moderators the ability to ban people, there was actually a chat on this topic for the mods not too long ago. Also on a side note, I would like some of you to take into consideration that Chad operates this site on his own time and money and he cannot be expected to make everyone happy. He does however realize when actions need to be taken, but you just have to be patient.

I just happened to think of an idea somewhat close to this, it would help with spamming. Say someone posts more than twenty times in a minute. Then, they would automatically be suspended, and Chad would have to either a.) ban them, or b.) let them off with a warning. Granted, the code would be tricky, but it's possible.
