What exactly IS a fanfiction?

I never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would have to answer this question.
The stuff that gets submitted to me never ceases to amaze me, and the submission I just got floored me.
I must say it, because it has to be said...but there are a few members out there that go well beyond "stupid." They define a new category of "not quite with it," and may be that small link between utterly retarded, and just plain "braindead."
It seems that 6,149 of our present count of 6,151 users know what a fanfiction is, and can see the many examples of fanfiction that we have on our site.
It seems now that I have to answer:
"A fanfiction is a story written by a fan about a given genre (in this case "Ghostbusters"), that is not official work."
This was the latest submission:
Title: "figures"
Author: (You know who you are)
Body of fanfiction: The ghostbusters figures were fantastic!!! many days of enjoyment as a kid with these, wish those days could come back!!!!!
Needless to say, I did not approve it, and immediately deleted it and crossed myself.
Now, the thing that piques my curiosity is....this person is an ADULT!?!?!
If this is what I have to look forward to....I may not want to be a teacher for fear of having a heart attack from the stress.

here's a tip about teaching, if you ever EVER get offered anything to work in a school system called MPS (milwaukee public schools) RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! i'm serious that is unless you want to teach in a school the paralleled the show boston public. you wouldn't be able to take it. almost no one can. not even the students.

I'm the other idiot. I just haven't gotten an idea for a fan fic yet. I live in a town called Truth or Consequences N.M. and it seems like the real-life version of the simpson's Springfield.

Hey, don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough place to live but it seems like there's a lot of idiots moving here from all over. One idiot blew up a propane storage tank by backing a truck into it.
