I am attempting to recreate the ECTO-1 prop used in the first movie. I know that the '59 hearse is an extremely difficult find. I would like to know of any reasonable substitutes and or any information at all concerning reconstructing this great icon. Details especially for the props on the roof. thanks

A white volkswagon maybe? (not a bug, one of those...umm...things families used to drive...it's basically the same shape, with less curves though.)

I was hoping to keep with the cadillac. Maybe something withing the 1959-1961 time frame before any real changes were made to the body styles. I already have leads on the lights and my father in law owns a garage for any body work. The main detail though is in the top with all of the accessories and the scale.

Actually, if you do want an old Cadillac ambulance or hearse tend to avoid the 61 Cadillac. it resembles a ford thunderbird. any cadillac dating up to about 1971 will work well. but if your strapped for cash any station wagon dating from the 70's to present will do nicely (see CopyCats on ECTO-135).

You could find most of the things that go on top on some of the gb sites like gbprops, ecto135, ecto1a, etc. Theyre all also listed in the book, "Making Ghostbusters".

Id try a 69 or maybe a 73. Both cars have a pretty good feel for the original car, even better yet, go for a 60. But thier as hard ot find as the 59's. Good luck fro the equipment up top, for positions i reccoment gbprops. He has all those keen ref. pics now.

True! a 1960 Cadillac is as close as your gonna get to a 59 style wise.

There is no cure for that my friend. I was lucky enough to narrow just the lights for my ecto to 982.00 buckaroos. THAT JUST FOR LIGHTS! Not painjobs or roof equipment or anything else, not even power boxes.

so far so good, found a '59 ambulance. and Galls is helping with the lights. Luckily for me my father-in-law owns a garage to help with a lot. I want to thank all for their help and support of this dream. I will post pics to those who want of the before, during, and finished product. Contact me at Bravonasties@aol.com, also when done I will post plans to help aid others.

Now why is it the people who have been looking hard for months, even years for a '59 M&M or just a '59 caddy never find one but along comes someone who simply searches and volaa!
Can't wait to see progress pics on this car! Good Luck!

You dont Need a Cadillac Ambulance to make an Ectomobile. Just Grab a station wagon, spring for some paint and roof materials. it ends up looking really cool in the end. take a look at ECTO-135's copycats section, the Ectomobile section at the Ghostbusters Prop Archive or GB.nets prop section. that should help.
