my personal opinion is it is the aparition of a spirit or soul that has been damned to a dimention of eternal pain and peril. maybe when it was alive it didnt have the greatest time, and in its death, it will just relive this pain and show it by leaving its form of "ecto plasmic residue" which would be the blood. of course the blood could be completely aparitional and not even be there but be in ghastly form in a sense. like it is part of the ghost itself. just my two cents though

LordVego, you have some good points there...I guess the blood could be an appariation itself....

its not always just "blood" that shows up in hauntings but most of the time its just the blood plasma that will show up. like in san padro case where blood plasma was dripping from the cabnets and walls they took it to a lab and confirmed it was the blood plasma of a male.

I disagree with some items of interest above, including the "ecto plasmic residue' theory (and would suggest further investigation into that terminology as well as the actual source for ectoplasm).

Blood on weaponry obviously (as has been stated) would be due to a murder, either through homicide or warfare.

Blood stains have been discovered in hardwood floors and walls, and it seeping through or staining carpet or wall paper is not unfounded, as a matter of fact I don't doubt it's documented heavily in the annals of paranormal research.

I do not believe that it could happen in real life, nor do I believe it's been documented as a case yet, where the blood 'disappeared' from the site, whereas there have been recorded cases of blood appearing (even from statues, etc) and leaving stains which remained.

It is extraordinarily incorrect to say that the blood is the ghost, however I would venture to say, based on the "writing on the wall" scenarios at some locations of interest, that the blood could be created BY the ghost which goes unseen.
