Try "The Golden Boughg" by James Fraiser published in 1901 as an encyclopedia of occult knowledge. Fraiser was a skeptic, but does give a lot of good documentation. You can get an abridged edition at Walden Books, The Book Stall or Little Prof. Zolar, is another great occult author whose dealt with ghosts and spirits, I want to recommend his "Ancient & Forbidden Knowledge" but, then I don't recalling it having much about ghosts. Harold Sherman's "You Live After Death" and "The Dead Are Alive". 0ne of these I picked up at a used book store in the 80's, with a publication date of 1945, the other, Mr. Sherman wrote in the early 80's, when he was quite old. Fate Magazine deals with ghosts a good bit, as does MYSTERIES MAGAZINE. You could always try to pick up a copy of "Tobin's; Spirit Guide".

I think it's been established that Tobin's spirit guide doesn't actually exist... at least not any more if it ever did.

My post above was intended as a serious one, most of the books I listed are real and in print today or, if not, can be found through rare book services offered on the net or through better book stores everywhere. TV also offers various programs dealing with ghosts and hauntings, like "Haunted History" Hist, Ch & "Jerry 0rbach's; Mystries of the Unexplained" on PAX. If you seriously want to study the subject you might want to try The Tyrad Company or Samuel Wieser Press Ltd.

Go to your local library and check the Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology.
To learn about Parapsychology there are several good books out there. The best are Lloyd M Auerbach's "ESP, Hauntings, and Poltergeists: A Parapsychologists' Handbook" and D. Scott Rogo's "Haunted House Handbook."

I want to recommend "The Dictionary of Witchcraft and Demonology", but by the same token, don't know whether it deals as much with ghosts and spirit life, as you may want
