Now, the Boogie/bogey man, has for a very long time been something that has scared children. Now I'm not about to say that in every closet lies a monster, far from it! But I wanted to delve into the origins of this monster. It is highly possible that it was based on somthing that is easier to believe, such as a child snatcher in a small village, or maybe it steamed from some actual demonic force? Or maybe it was just pure fiction? A product of some authors great imagination! Im reading into it at the moment in pure interest, any one who has any input into the TRUE origins of the folklore beast, please post here!

Yeah, me too, I keep getting fictional books or films! I have a hunch the answer lies in a very old book, but I'm not sure!

The Bogeyman was brought up by the CelticPagans, they beleieve thayt he was a spiirt that carried an axe with him, and tormented that liars, theives, and murderers.
However, there are several variations to this beliefsm he was known as the Boo-Man IN England, the Bad Man in Germany, and in Scotland , he's known as the Bogart, Bogey, or Bogy.
However, French believed that he would eat naughty children. I believe that it was old English tall tales that he became to scare kids.

Its weird... we were talking about this in psych class, just momentarily but my teacher said that its sorta funny how almost everyone knows the boogeyman or was at a time superstitous about going into a dark closet or looking under his/her bed.

i always thought the boogie man was real thanx to watching too many eps of real ghostbusters but after long searches online and in books stores i cant find anything

if u really want to look that stuff up-id stay away from the net-a good ol fashioned library is prolly the best bet

Not all Library books have any info on the Bogeyman, and Sinester, I got my info from a webite that is now closed.

http://home.att.net/~zazel/bogey.html was the website that had this info but it's gone now.
The Celtic Pagans believed that the Bogeyman was a spirit that tormented kiler, lairs, and thives, but they thought of him as being a deranged man woith veralls and caarried an ax with him. And they didnt believe that he had hooves, I think that was the REal Ghostbusters descriction of him, since he comes in many cultures and backgrounds.

Yeah, please remember that RGB IS fiction, and its an artists impression... secondly the typical cloven hoofed demon is also a sort of artists impression. Most of the time they are simply "spirits" with no actual body, that manifest themselves somwhere.
