Alright, so because of the simple fact that I refuse to accept the concept of hell, that automatically invalidates my stance as a Christian? I still believe in God, I still believe in Jesus, and I believe that we should all adhere to the basic principle of treating others with kindness, respect, and love. These were the foundations of Jesus's teachings. Hell was just invented as a way to scare people into accepting Christianity. An all-loving God (such as the Christian God, which I allegedly do not believe in) would not have the heart to condemn sinners to eternal damnation. Also, like I said earlier, all this paranormal junk just doesn't fly with me, because I feel that God is too far above our realm of comprehension for us to understand Him. Any idea about God which can be concocted and fully understood by the human mind must necessarily be flawed, because the human mind cannot fully cope with the concept of God. Finally, as for the Bible issue, PK has already addressed this quite nicely, in my opinion. Man is flawed, and so is everything he does.

I have to support weirdguy here - just because someone may have a different interpretation of a religion, i.e. Christianity, it doesn't invalidate them as a believer of that faith.
There are only about 39 billion different interpretations of the Judeo-Christian faith alone. MOST people pick and choose portions of their religion. So don't chastise the young lad here because he may believe in one portion of the faith and not another. Or if he doesn't really believe in the supernatural.
If he's being condescending to you because you do believe in something you don't, that's one thing, but it doesn't mean you should retaliate in kind.

Slimerboy: The seven seals are not the 7 gates. The seals are parts of a holy book which, in the Revelation of the apostle John, unleash terrible events upon the world during the end times. For example, the first 4 seals are to unleash, when broken, the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

i agree with that vyce. it urks me everytime someone says "as a christian" and then says they arent pushin their religion. in the deep of the topic, they were just talkin about the seven gates of hell on earth, but the words were "as a christian, im debunking hell, but there are seven gates, and im religious and im not pushing it on you, but..."
i just think that as a religious person one should be more open to all that is paranormal. even hell. especially if you make a topic on it.

Er, I'm not exactly sure how to respond, because I'm not terribly certain what you said. It sounds like you're saying that I started this topic of the seven gates to Hell, which I didn't. The only reason I brought my religion into this was because I don't see how you can talk about Hell without getting religion involved.

Seven gates to hell, huh? Sounds to me, as a random guy, that it might be a reference to the "Seven Deadly Sins." Well... makes sense to me anyway.

the number seven shows up a lot in the bible: earth was created in seven days, seven deadly sins, seven signs of the apocalypse, seven seals.
i think the seals are probably the thing we're looking for here, though. i can't remember exactly how it's referring to the seals because i haven't read the bible in a long time... but when i hear "seal" in this case, i think of something that's sealed; a gate.
so what does it say about the seven seals? does it talk about them being located in places, or are they not referred to like that?
now my mind's moving a little... there are seven wonders of the world, too. i wonder if there's any relation? maybe the gates are located there?

From two guys who were in the pastoral ministry at one point, Vince and I could answer all of your religious questions if you wish.
The seven seals are not locations. They are a metaphysical concept.
You are not supposed to match up current events with the book of Revelation....we are not supposed to know when judgement day is.
Seven is a significant number in the Christian faith. Seven is the universal number of "completeness."
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me while Vince is away.
To ProtonCharger: All of the above is just the view of a guy who went through the training to be a minister. I'm not soliciting my faith, but merely answering some questions.
It urks ME when people lump Christians in all the same beliefs. There are hundreds of denominations of Christians, and alot of views are radically different.
Tolerance and open-mindedness do not mean acceptance.
"snicker," Protoncharger? Sounds to me like YOU are the one NOT bing very open-minded.
The above "opinion" is merely developed from the actual study of the Greek and The Hebrew. Everyone's got an opinion. No one here is right, nor is anyone wrong.
I don't think everyone else is "stupid" because they don't believe what I do...they just chose to accept something different as "fact."

this whole thread may be pointless:
according to my friend, there are *nine* gates of hell, not seven. i gotta say, that sounds more correct to me.
who wants to do research and see who's right?

Well, according to the good book, Hell is a place unaccessable by earthly means. The only way to get there is through death.
The "gates of hell" is just a metaphor. Again, according to the good book.

Discussing this with some friends, seems the 7 Gates of Hell are part of "Dante's Inferno", possibly. Best location of the levels of hell as based on Dante's description in his book (obviously theory) is found (unfortunately) on a site about Dr. Hannibal Lecter (you read right) :
http://www.pentaone.com/hannibal/danteinferno.shtml
The complete text of the book is available here:
http://www.pentaone.com/hannibal/downloads/comedy.pdf
There is talk of funnels which are the "gates of hell" in the book " “A Divine Revelation of Hell (by Mary K. Baxter)”:
“Jesus and Mary went higher and higher into the sky, until they could see the Earth below. Mary then saw long funnels protruding out of the Earth. These funnels were all over the Earth and could only been seen with the spiritual eye. Mary asked what these funnels were and Jesus replied that those were gateways to Hell and that they are to go into Hell through one of them.”
“They soon entered into one of the funnels. Inside the funnel looked like a spinning tunnel, and yet there was deep darkness as well as a horrible smell. Evil spirits, dark grey in color, lined the tunnel. These spirits were embedded in the walls, yet were able to move and cry out. When Mary asked about these forms, Jesus said that they are evil spirits ready to be spat onto the Earth, once Satan gives the orders.”

Matthew Chapter 16 verse 18 (?) Makes a mention of the “gates of hell” in context that they cannot overcome the church.
Peter's Confession of Christ
13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
14They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ,[2] the Son of the living God."
17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter,[3] and on this rock I will build my church, and “the gates of Hades[4]” will not overcome it.[5] 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[6] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[7] loosed in heaven." 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
I’ve found no information in regards to the “7 Gates of Hell,” and I do not believe that they would be easily found or located on earth, at least not by living people.
Here’s a movie called “The Beyond”: The Beyond (NR) The road to hell is unpaved in Lucio Fulci's 1981 Italian horror for which Quentin Tarantino is trying to build a cult. If all you care about are grossout effects you'll get your share, but the plot about a woman inheriting a Louisiana hotel built over one of the seven gateways to hell is barely enough to hang them on. You'll shriek more from laughter than terror.
Finally, the proof is in the pudding: -Dante's Inferno Canto III (77-80) ... Till he has thrust her back to Hell's abyss ... and after that I passed through “seven gateways” with the sages. From: http://www.purgatorio.com/inferno/inferno.htm
I’ll leave YOU to read the entire INFERNO! LOL!!
