This has got to be one of the spookiest paranormal occurences that has ever happened to me.
A few years ago, me and a couple of friends were discussing urban legends when one of us brought up Bloody Mary. The story goes that she used to be a murderer in like the sixteenth century and was killed. It seems that every time you step in front of a mirror and say her name three times, she comes and kills you. For this to work, your house must be completely dark, meaning no light can get in. I didn't believe it, so, on a dare, I decided to try it. What happened I still don't believe to this day, but here goes: as I was standing in front of my room mirror and saying her name three times, I saw my reflection holding one of those old style battle axes. I quickly flicked on the lights and my reflection returned to normal.
As strange as it was, I never really slept well for many months.
That's ''bad''

About a Bloody Mary/Mary Worth experience.I wouldn't advise anyone to call her name in the mirror.as I did when i was 12.something terrible happened to me, I became very ill to where i was bed-ridden & couldn't go to school. One night a spirit came to my bed & stood in front of me.I was terrified.I was ill with dizzy spells for couple years & the doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me,but i knew something was wrong.I felt as though her spirit or something had possessed my body & was making me sick.I prayed & asked God to help me & forgive me for doing this.Soon after I was healed of this oppression & no longer suffered any longer. So that experience i'll never forget even after 30 years later.Juner42

In order to assist us in investigations, The Ghosts of Ohio keeps a database that contains all the reports we receive of alleged hauntings in Ohio. We also log in all the requests for information we receive via e-mail to enable us to find out what sites our readers are most interested in hearing about. And one of the requests we get most often is for information related to Bloody Mary.
For those of you not familiar with the legend of Bloody Mary, it goes something like this: a person stands in a dark room and stares into a mirror. The individual then says the name “Bloody Mary” (or some variation on the name) a certain number of times (usually three), and Mary will appear on the other side of the mirror. Depending on which version you choose to believe, Mary will do anything from simply leer at you to literally come through the mirror and attack you.
This is a frightening story to be sure. Even more disturbing is the fact that some believe Bloody Mary once lived in the Buckeye State. . .in a total of 25 separate locations throughout Ohio, to be exact. At least that is what it appears from all the e-mails we have received.
But before you start covering up all the mirrors in your house, you can relax; there is no Bloody Mary. It is nothing more than an urban legend that has been around for a long time. The legend itself is so popular that you can find variations of the Bloody Mary legend in movies such as Urban Legend and Candyman. It even made it into an X-Files episode.
So far, The Ghosts of Ohio has not been able to deduce why there are so many different versions of the Bloody Mary story floating throughout Ohio. It may simply be based on the fact that “conjuring” up Bloody Mary has become something of a tradition at sleepovers. It also appears that all one needs is a “haunted” cemetery with a Mary buried somewhere on the grounds and she becomes the “real” Bloody Mary. Such has been the case with graveyards we visited in Coshocton, Vermillion, and Medina.
Regardless, we thought our readers might want to hear about some of the more interesting things The Ghosts of Ohio have been told about Bloody Mary:
--She lived in Lancaster in a house known as the Mudhouse Mansion. While the house no longer exists, when Mary is summoned, the house will materialize out of the mist**.
--She was the founder of “Helltown”, located near Boston Mills
--She was a patient at the former state mental state hospital in Athens
--Nazis murdered her in Franklin Castle
--She was an inmate at the Ohio State Penitentiary
--She lives in Lake Erie (yes, literally living at the bottom of the lake)
--Her name was Mary Wolfe and she returns to haunt Centerville Cemetery. . . in the form of a wolf.
Needless to say, there is no truth to any of those stories. So rest easy, Ohio, you are safe from the clutches of Bloody Mary. However, if you should find yourself driving past any of the above-listed locations on some dark and stormy night, you might want to check your backseat. You never know—there might be some lunatic with a hook for a hand lurking back there, just waiting for a chance to force you to eat Pop Rocks with a Pepsi chaser.
For more information regarding the history of the Bloody Mary legend, visit the Bloody Mary page of the Mythology Web.
**With regard to the Mudhouse Mansion variation of the Bloody Mary legend: The Ghosts of Ohio are quite aware that a house known locally as Mudhouse Mansion does in fact exist. On foggy nights, when viewed from a certain point on a nearby road, the house will appear to be materializing out of the mist. This is due simply to the fact that the road is elevated above the house, which sits in a bit of a valley.
The Mudhouse Mansion variation on the legend was placed on this page to give the reader a better understanding of the wide range of stories that are circulating. It was written exactly as we were told it. But sadly, as you well know, facts are often not a requirement of urban legends!
The Ghosts of Ohio would like to sincerely thank all of our readers who sent us e-mails and even forwarded pictures to let us know Mudhouse Mansion exists. It shows you guys really do read this stuff!Urban Legend: Chanting "Bloody Mary!" thirteen times in front of a candlelit mirror in an otherwise dark room will summon her vengeful spirit.
The Story: Go into a room with a mirror and turn all the lights off. Bathrooms seem to be perfect for this since they almost always have a mirror and are usually dark at night with the lights off and the door closed. Light a candle, look into the mirror, start chanting "Bloody Mary" . You have to do this 13 times, of course. You should see Bloody Mary behind your left shoulder after the thirteenth time.
Beware, she has been reported to 1.) Kill the person calling her, 2.) Scratch their eyes out, 3.) Drive the person mad or 4.) pull the person into the mirror with her. This is an old legend, it has been around for ages. A folklorist, Janet Langlois, published an essay on the legend back in 1978. At that time, the legend was wide spread across the USA and a popular slumber party ritual done by girls as well as boys. No one knows the true origins of the Bloody Mary tale, she's been known to be anything from a witch that was killed for practicing witchcraft to a modern day woman killed in a car crash, depending on what part of the country you live in. It was made popular again in the film Urban Legends in 1999.

I heard what Bloody Mary looks like. She's suppost to be all red with vampire teeth. One of my friends decided to check out the Bloody Mary trick. The next day he wouldn't talk and two days later he confessed and said that his reflection turned into a girl with red skin and vampire teeth with a knife. He said that it looked like it was getting closer to him.He claimed that he turned on the light in his bathroom and his reflection was normal.(to summon Bloody Mary you must be in a room without light in) I tried myself and it was very similar. My reflection changed to red skin and I got vampire teeth. I was holding a bloody knife and it stepped closer.I was still myself though but just in a scary version.I never tried to summon the Bloody Mary again... Not until I find a way to get rid of what I see instead of just turning off lights. I think that may just put her away but keep her in.

Pardon me if I don't seem to have much patience for many...well, nearly all the posts in this thread.
Did you know that the conjuring of demons and spirits is silly for the simple reason that they exist, and anything which exists has free roaming. The purpose of conjuring is so that the conjurer will be able to have control over the spirit.
Bloody Mary. Myth. There may be stories which link the myth to the factual individual of years' past, but all you're doing to yourselves is sparking that moment of "dark thrill" in your minds.
When you do the act to conjure Bloody Mary all you see is you.
Even in the darkest of night, there is still some form of light beaming in on whatever scale you could imagine. That's why, in even the darkest rooms, mice and cats and bats are all able to maneuver around.
In the case of Mary, you're in a bathroom or other room, looking in a mirror calling her name until she comes to you, right? Well, during that time your eyes are focusing, and becoming used to, the low-light of the room. What you think you see as Bloody Mary is your own reflection in the dark mirror as your eyes adjust to the dark. Nothing more, nothing less.
It's a very smart psychological trick that someone created years ago to freak someone out, and it's still working so well to this day that folks think they get sick and have spirits appear by their bed or other bad-luck things happen--or such they would have us to believe.

Actually, this reminds me of an incident in grade school years ago. I was in first grade, and this one boy had an article his parents brought back from some foreign country.
It was of a monkey that was sliced from side to side, and I can't remember if it was wood or stone. It had eyes that were red glass or rubys or something. He explained that it had powers of suggestion and that, if the sun reflected off it's beady red eyes just right, you would see it's materialization in the trees.
Well, I of course challenged him to it, and several of the kids gathered around and he was positioning it in a tree near the swing set.
A few minutes later a girl began to whimper that she saw it, and then bawl-crying that her parents were dead and chopped up. A teacher came and got her, took her inside the school, and then took the boy's monkey-amulet thing.
I don't think anything ever really happened to the girl's parents, and she was okay afterwards.
