Your Thoughts on the MUSIC of the RGB series......

From the bubble gum-poppin' sounds of Tahiti's "Driving Me Crazy" to the themes that usually "set the mood" for the show, I think many would agree that the music from The RGB series had a unique talent for capturing the show's most greatest, amazing, and funniest moments. So, in this I ask you...what are some of your favorite RGB musical tidbits? Is it the opening theme? The "chase sequence" with the wailing saxophone? Which ones do you love and why?
***If you think the song is one we probably won't remember, give us the episode and describe the moment at which the music was played.

I've always loved the song "Midnight Action" from the "When Halloween Was Forever" I've been aching to get a copy of it for a long time now. I also like the song that Malachai's band played in "Play Them Rag Time Boos" the one that sounds like (and probably is) "When The Saints Come Marching"
Also the song played during transitions (usually they show the fireplace from the outside then go to whatever the guys are doing inside)So...yeah, If anyone can get me "Midnight Action" please e-mail me at CKEgon@aol.com. Thank you

The music for the show is really good
1.Tahiti-Charge You Up
2.The best song was the one they hardly ever used for action scenes. Go listen to it!
Citizen Ghost-"You zapped my little buddy!"
You Can't Take it With You-The GBs dodge laser beams.
Sea Fright-Briefly as Slimer fights with the bird.
3. The heroic song heard in Venkman's Ghost Repellers(after Egon tells the guy what to do), Station Identification(Gumbo appears) and Flip Side(the Peoplebusters carry Ray off) also in Captain Steel Saves The Day.
4. The spooky music when the Citizen Ghost doubles are forming/also heard in Mrs Rogers Neighborhood.
5.The punk/new wave music. Play Them Ragtime Boos/Cabinet of Calimari/Rollerghoster.
etc.

The music that plays in 'Ghostbuster of the Year' when all the lights are flashing on-and-off and the Ghostbusters are firing everywhere!

I liked the one they played during the scene changes usually, and one of the chase songs. I really hated this one song they played during sad moments. Too sad.

Haha, I always hated the crappy music from the cartoon, even as a kid. I only liked the eerie music with the long, drawn out notes, that was good, and actually creepy. But the cheesy, sax/harmonica junk played during light hearted moments and usually the end of the show made/make me cringe. I never liked how they would also have songs with lyrics, to sound poppy like the movie soundtrack, it always ended up being too corny. I am a HUGE fan of the movie soundtrack from GB1 and of course the theme, but when they'd play things like, "Ooooo Mr.Sandman" I'd mute it haha. No offense to anyone who likes the music from the cartoon, but it was a poor attempt at trying to rip the movie off even more.

It's wasn't really used as much as the other few 'running around' cues. A few chase/action scenes like Transylvanian Homesick Blues with the chase towards the end and Ghost Busted as Peter apprehends the jewelry store thief. Can't forget Ghostfight At The O.K. Corral when Winston has a bad encounter with a newspaper printer. Yep.

By the way, does anybody know on what episode I could find an extended version of the "wailing saxophone" chase sequence music?

I think a few of the best clips I've heard of it are in Last Train to Oblivion when Ray's driving crazy to get to the train and maybe a few times throughout The Headless Motorcyclist once as the guy leaves the party and is being followed and again as they try and lure the Motorcyclist.

That great music is another thing that made RGB unique and special. Especially the timing with where it came in. The same thing applies to both Movies.
And speaking of Music, sadly, that's another area where EGB failed. Let me quote Zack in saying, "Horribly depressing music (There were NO lively tunes whatsover.). That one annoying funeral sounding song with French horns. I know EGB was a darker show though.".
Music is important to T.V. Shows and Movies. Without it, things would probably be pretty boring.

They don’t just call them The Real Ghostbusters for no reason! Take a look at Take Two, Citizen Ghost, The Ghostbusters Omnibus Timeline, THE GHOSTBUSTERS FACT LIST, and RGB Truly Canon with the Movies?, and you’ll see why!

it's safe to say EGB had no songs you'd find yourself humming in the shower
Matthew is absolutely right! One thing I think EGB forgot is that Ghostbusters was a comedy. It's supposed to be a mix of funny and scary. EGB failed to deliver for me as far as being a funny show. It tried to be cool and dark and take itself more seriously and I think that's where it "failed" for many fans. If there's no comedy then there's no need for comedic timing or decent music to come in at the right moment. I don't know what they put the emphasis on in the show because I really can't tell. Extreme equipment? The ghosts and extras often had more personalities than the busters themselves. Ah, all of the characters were all corpses anyway, lifeless zombies.
Personally the EGB characters had no admirable qualities about them that appealed to me. I had no desire to see any of them succeed. In fact I found myself wanting to see them destroyed at times. They always beat the ghost but there was no real sense of triumph or music to let you know that it was ok to rejoice and celebrate. If the show was no fun then there was certainly no need for the music to be. It all turned into the ambience and atmosphere music you hear. One reason I don't like to watch EGB very often. The music(much like the characters on the show) were dull and lacking life.

That's why most of us prefer Oil Paintings over EGB!
